Tooth Issues That Can Become Major Problems Later

Dental hygiene is a serious issue that has to be taken seriously. While you may feel that brushing and flossing your teeth or visiting your dentist regularly are minor things and if they slip your mind, it’s no big deal. But the reality is that long term neglect of dental hygiene can result in major health issues. In fact, even minor dental health issues can quickly turn into major issues down the line if you don’t work on them. Here are three tooth issues that can be

Toothaches

The first tooth issue that can become a major problem later if you don’t get it treated is toothaches. Toothaches are incredibly common and occur anytime you feel an aching in your tooth. Toothaches can be caused by any number of issues, from cavities to gum inflammation and disease, to jaw injury. But if left untreated these toothaches can grow into infected teeth or gums, and eventually result in the loss of your tooth or teeth. If you are suffering from a toothache, then your best approach to handle it is visiting your dentist right away.

Wisdom Teeth

Another common tooth issue that can become a major problem later if left untreated are your wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to come in, and many people do not have room for these teeth to erupt healthily into their mouth. Most people have their wisdom teeth removed between 18 and 25. If you don’t get your wisdom teeth removed by this time, you may find that they erupt later in life, causing you severe pain and requiring immediate surgery to remove. If you have not had your wisdom teeth removed, you should talk to your dentist about their recommendations for removal of your wisdom teeth as a preventive measure.

Inflamed Gums

The final tooth issue that can become a major problem late in life is inflamed gums. Inflamed, red, painful, and swollen gums are all signs that your gums are not healthy and could be or become infected if care is not taken. If you let your gums condition worse, and even escalate to gum disease, you are running the risk of losing your teeth. Dealing with dentures or veneers is not fun. If you have inflamed gums, work with your dentist to find a solution.

Taking care of your mouth is essential to promote the long-term health of your teeth. Ignoring issues now will only make them larger later. Pay attention to these three tooth issues that can become major problems if left untreated.
