Major Expenses You Need to Budget for When Planning a Wedding

A wedding is many things. A wedding is a beautiful ceremony celebrating the love between two people and their commitment to that love for life. It’s also an opportunity to have a great time with friends and family and enjoy the company of those you care about the most. And a wedding is, most of all, expensive. Throwing a wedding is a major expense and this cannot be overlooked when planning the perfect wedding for you. No wedding should force you into debt, and with the right tips, you can know these three major expenses that you need to budget for when planning a wedding.

Catering

The first major expense that you need to budget for when planning a wedding is the catering. While your guests are expected to foot the bill for their transportation, clothing, and a gift for the happy couple, the happy couple is expected in return to pay for the food on the special day. This can quickly get very expensive, considering a typical wedding has over one hundred guests to feed. Make sure you know the size of the wedding when working with caterers to find an option within your budget.

Renting a Venue

The next major expense that you have to budget for appropriately when planning a wedding is renting a venue for your wedding. You have to have a place to hold your wedding, and that comes at an expense, unless you hold your wedding somewhere you personally own or rent already. Your venue should be accessible by some basic transportation. You want to make it as easy as possible for guests to attend your wedding, so choose a venue that is easy to travel to. This is especially true if you are inviting a lot of older guests to your wedding who won’t find travel very easy.

An Open Bar

The final major expense that you need to budget for when planning a wedding is an open. If you are hosting an open bar at your wedding reception, then know that comes with a pretty high cost to you. While it is very kind of you to foot the bill for a whole open bar, there are alternatives if this doesn’t quite fit. Try limiting offerings to cut costs, or simply host an open cocktail hour followed by a cash bar for the remainder of the evening.

A wedding is a lot of things but cheap is not one of them. In order to stay on budget, you need to know the hefty expenses you are going to be responsible for. Make sure that you have budgeted effectively for these three major expenses to keep your wedding within your budget.
