Items That Need to Get Done When Planning a Wedding

Weddings, like all other important events, need to be properly planned to go smoothly. When you think about wedding planning, you typically think about things like choosing a color scheme or what type of flowers you want. However, there are a few very important logistics that also need to be taken care of before your wedding.

Get a Marriage License

A marriage is not just a beautiful ceremony expressing your love for your partner; it is also a legally binding agreement. Marriage includes quite a bit of legal business, including—but not limited to—changing of last names and the ability to file for taxes together. In order to avoid legal problems and disputes after you are married, make sure that you get a proper marriage license wherever you are planning on getting married.

Find a Venue

Another thing that you should be thinking about months before your wedding is where exactly you are having the wedding. This is especially important if you want something more than just a courthouse wedding. Booking a venue that is large enough to accommodate all of your guests and will allow you to create the wedding of your dreams must be done months in advance. If you try to choose a venue too close to your wedding date, you may find that the most desirable places are already booked. Choosing a venue that also offers catering can help reduce the planning you need to do.

Get a Headcount

If you are planning on having family and friends attend your wedding ceremony or reception, you need to get an accurate headcount. A headcount will determine how many seats, tables, food, favors, and many other things are needed at your wedding. Ask the venue you choose when they would like the final headcount since they are the ones that need that number the most. Make sure that your invitation has the RSVP date set to a few days to even a few weeks before when the venue needs the headcount. If you haven’t heard back from people by or close to the RSVP date, find out as soon as possible if they will be attending.

Dealing with numbers and legal documents may not seem like the most glamorous part of wedding planning. However, figuring out these logistics helps you lay the foundation for your wedding. Once you have finalized these details, you can focus on elegant aesthetic details to perfect your day.
