Ways to Keep Yourself Fit and Active When You Work a 9–5
It’s very common for people to set weight loss or fitness goals for themselves. At first, these goals seem like they can be achieved with the right attitude and drive. Unfortunately, many people find that life gets in the way of their plan. Working a 9 to 5 job can drastically impede your ability to get a workout in each day. By the end of the workday, the last thing you feel like doing is heading to the gym. Most people just want to get home. There are still ways that you can keep yourself fit while working a 9 to 5 job.
Take the Stairs
Working little bits of exercise into your workday can help you stay fit without having to put an entire workout into play. If you have to get to a meeting that is a few floors above yours, opt to take the stairs. The elevator may be more convenient, but you’re not going to get fit by using this method of transportation. In fact, adding seven minutes of stair climbing total to your day can reduce the risk of heart disease by 50 percent over ten years!
Bike to Work
If you don’t work too far from your job and it would be safe to do so, biking to work is a great way to keep yourself fit while working full time. Not only will you be in better shape but biking to work is also a much friendlier option for the environment. You’ll be improving your health and reducing your carbon footprint. Remember to take appropriate safety precautions to avoid serious problems when commuting to work on your bike.
Make the Most of Your Lunch Break
When you get a break in the day, it’s tempting to sit in the cafeteria and relax. It’s better to head outside to get a brisk walk in. A lot of companies are also starting to put gyms in their office buildings. This is a convenient way to help employees workout without having to leave the building or plan for their workout after hours. If your company doesn’t have a gym available, you can always look into where the closest gym facility would be to your office and head there during your lunch break.
When you’re working a 9 to 5 job, it takes a little bit of extra planning in order to stay fit and healthy. The good news is, it’s still perfectly doable. You just have to make the most of the time that you have and try to use the time that you have during the day.
