Tips for Planning a Wedding for the First Time
Whether your own wedding or a wedding of a loved one, this is an exciting time! It also can be very stressful, since sometimes you might feel that a wedding needs to be absolutely perfect. Here are some simple but useful things you can do to ensure that a wedding turns out wonderful!
Plan Ahead of Time
The more time you give yourself to plan, the less stressed you will be. Planning well ahead of time means that you will be able to deal with unexpected problems as they come without worrying about how they will affect the wedding. You can search for the proper venue, decorations, catering, cake maker, music, etc. without urgency. You can carefully compare and contrast the potential options with your future spouse (or with both the spouses-to-be, if it is not your wedding) and make decisions without having to compromise for the sake of time. Ideally, you should start planning for a wedding at least six months in advance.
Budget for Major Costs
If you´re not careful, the costs for the extravagant aspects of your wedding will build up quickly. While this should be a very special day, you also should not bankrupt yourself or go into major debt. Sit down with the spouse(s) in question before doing anything else and determine a budget, taking into account not only their personal wealth, but what their families are willing to contribute. Pick what will likely be the items that cost the most and budget them individually, according to what is reasonable for the level of quality that you desire. A venue for the civil ceremony and the reception will be a big one. The music will also be important – an average DJ can cost up to $1,500 for a wedding.
Know When to Be Flexible and When to Insist
As much as we may want weddings to be out of this world, the fact of the matter is that a perfect wedding is practically impossible. And that’s okay! You need to pick your battles. Ask yourself (or have the spouses ask themselves), what are the things that I am really going to remember? What is really important to me? Don’t be afraid to be flexible or to reasonably compromise on everything that falls outside of the realm of those answers.
Weddings are a joyous occasion. They can also be draining, exhausting, and stressful beyond belief. Try and remember that this is a wonderful celebration of two people and their life together! And be happy with the result, no matter what it is.
