Mistakes You’re Making With Breakfast
Breakfast is a great meal, but it isn’t one that a lot of people eat. Whatever your feelings are about your breakfast, it is an important part of making sure that you are healthy and able to go about your day the way that you want to. Just as with every other meal, it is easy to make some simple mistakes with your breakfast.
Skipping It
You’ve probably heard it said a million times that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While this may be up for debate, what is true is that eating a good breakfast sets you up to start the day with energy and the nutrients you need.
If you eat breakfast every morning, you will obviously be less hungry, but you will also be able to concentrate better, be less likely to get headaches, and won’t overeat later on in the day. If you are trying to lose weight, eating breakfast won’t necessarily help if you don’t make good food choices, but you won’t be tempted to snack as much or to eat too much when you do eat lunch.
Eating Too Much Sugar
Some of the most popular foods are stuffed full of sugar. Movies and tv have popularized donuts, pastries, sugary coffee, and other sugary foods as the best way to start the day. Many cereals contain high amounts of added sugar.
While these may taste good and they are good on occasion, having too much sugar to start your day will negate the benefits of eating breakfast. You need to make sure you are getting the nutrients you need to start your day off. Additionally, eating too much sugar to start your day won’t keep you full until lunch. Your energy will burn off too quickly and you will be left wanting to snack all day long.
Not Eating a Full Meal
Just like every other meal you eat, breakfast should include multiple food groups and be a balanced meal to give you the nutrients and energy that you need. However, despite knowing this, breakfast tends to be the meal that gets skimped on the most out of the day. This often happens because people are in a rush to get out the door for the day or they just aren’t sure how to put together a good meal. There are plenty of recipes to choose from that will provide you with a balanced meal to start the day that can be prepared the night before and grabbed on the way out the door, but if you have time to sit down and eat, it is even better.
Breakfast is a crucial part of having a balanced diet and having a good day. Whenever possible, make sure you include multiple food groups and that you have a nutritious breakfast to set you up for success. Even if you do decide to indulge in a sugary treat, make sure there is more to your meal than empty calories.
